PRIVACY POLICY

THE SHORT VERSION

– We collect only what we need to run Calcul8: your account details, your quiz activity, and basic device and diagnostic data.
– We don’t sell your personal data.
– You can access, correct, export, or delete your data at any time.
– We follow Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

1. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DATA

Jonah Isaac,  Accra, Ghana, is the data controller for personal data processed through Calcul8.

2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos (other than an avatar you choose to upload), or microphone or camera data.

3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

– To run the App: create and manage your account, save and sync your progress, cache questions for offline play, and deliver challenges between players.
– To personalise practice: adjust difficulty and suggest topics based on your performance.
– To communicate with you: send challenge alerts and reminders through push notifications (you can turn these off in your device settings), and send service emails such as password resets.
– To keep things fair and safe: detect cheating, abuse, and fraud, and enforce our Terms.
– To improve Calcul8: fix bugs, understand which features are used, and develop new ones, using aggregated or de-identified data where possible.
– To meet legal obligations: respond to lawful requests and comply with applicable law.

4. LEGAL BASES FOR PROCESSING

Under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) and, where applicable, similar laws such as the EU/UK GDPR, we process your data on these grounds:

– Contract: to provide the App and its features you asked for.
– Consent: for push notifications, optional analytics where consent is required, and, for younger users, parental consent. You can withdraw consent at any time.
– Legitimate interests: to keep the App secure, prevent cheating, and improve the service, balanced against your rights.
– Legal obligation: where the law requires us to process or keep data.

5. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION

We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising. We share it only:

– With other players: your username, avatar, and challenge scores are visible to players you challenge and, if applicable, on leaderboards.
– With service providers who host our servers, send notifications, or provide crash reporting and analytics on our behalf, under contracts that limit their use of your data.
– For legal reasons: when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or others.
– In a business transfer: if Calcul8 is merged, acquired, or sold, in which case we’ll notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Calcul8 uses the following providers. Their own privacy policies apply to the data they process.

7. DATA STORED ON YOUR DEVICE

To support offline play, Calcul8 stores question sets, your recent results, and app settings locally on your device. This data stays on your device until it syncs to your account or you uninstall the App. Uninstalling removes local data but does not delete your account — see section 12.

8. HOW LONG WE KEEP DATA

– Account and gameplay data: for as long as your account is active.
– After you delete your account: we delete or anonymise your personal data within [30] days, except for limited records we must keep by law. Backups are overwritten within [90] days.
– Inactive accounts: we may delete accounts with no sign-in for [24 months], after notifying you by email.
– Crash and analytics data: kept in line with our providers’ retention settings, typically no more than [14 months].

9. SECURITY

We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, access controls on our servers and database, and regular updates. No system is perfectly secure, but if a data breach affects your personal data, we’ll notify you and the Data Protection Commission as required by law.

10. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

Our servers and some of our providers may be located outside Ghana. When we transfer personal data internationally, we take steps to make sure it receives a level of protection consistent with Act 843 and other applicable law.

11. YOUR RIGHTS

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

– access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
– correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
– delete your data;
– object to or restrict certain processing;
– receive your data in a portable format;
– withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing.

To use any of these rights, email [privacy@email]. We’ll respond within [30] days and may need to verify your identity first.

12. DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT

You can delete your account and associated data at any time:

– In the App: go to [Settings → Account → Delete account].
– Without the App: email kwaku.jonah@gmail.com from the address linked to your account with the subject “Delete my Calcul8 account”.

Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, progress, and challenge history. Results from past challenges may remain visible to opponents but will show as “Deleted player”.

13. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

Calcul8 is designed for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal data without your consent, contact [privacy@email] and we’ll delete it promptly.

14. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy as Calcul8 evolves. When we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and let you know in the App or by email before the changes take effect.
